► Vorbemerkung: Gleich vorweg, das SEL90M28G ist ein exzellentes Macro- und Porträtobjektiv. Vorausgesetzt man erwischt ein mängelfreies Exemplar. Mein Weg dahin war leider ein sehr steiniger. Aber dazu später mehr. ► Vorbemerkung: Gleich vorweg, das SEL90M28G ist ein exzellentes Macro- und Porträtobjektiv. Vorausgesetzt man erwischt ein mängelfreies Exemplar. Mein Weg dahin war leider ein sehr steiniger. Aber dazu später mehr. ► Lieferumfang und Verpackung: Die Sony-typische, orange Kartonverpackung enthält neben dem SEL90M28G eine Gegenlichtblende, eine vordere und hintere Abdeckkappe, einen Kunstlederbeutel und ein zusammengefaltetes Manual. ► Erster Eindruck, Haptik und Verarbeitung: Wie man dieses Objektiv wahrnimmt ist sehr subjektiv und wohl auch sehr abhängig davon, was man sonst so an Objektiven gewöhnt ist. Gegenüber meinem bisherigen (rein manuellen) Macro-Objektiv mit 100 mm Brennweite und F2,8 ist das Sony kompakter, leichter und seitens der verwendeten Materialien sehr viel edler. Verarbeitungsseitig reiht es sich nahtlos in die Sony-Zeiss-Reihe ein, von denen ich bereits das SEL2470z und das SEL1635z nutze. Das Design ist harmonisch, modern und etwas verspielt. Durch seine zahlreichen Bedienelemente wirkt es zudem sehr interessant. Es ist komplett mit Aluminium ummantelt, das Oberflächenfinish ist mattglänzend und die Haptik äußerst angenehm. Den einzigen Wermutstropfen stellt das Filtergewinde dar, welches im Gegensatz zu den Sony-Zeiss-Objektiven leider nicht aus Metall, besteht, sondern aus Kunststoff. Auch die Gegenlichtblende kann nicht mit dem ansonsten makellosen und wertigen Gesamtauftritt mithalten, denn sie ist simpel gestaltet und besteht nur aus Plastik. Ich nutze das Objektiv an einer Alpha 7R II und da empfinde ich es seitens Ergonomie und Gewichtsverteilung als recht harmonisch. Es ist weniger kopflastig als mein bisheriges Macro und auch ein Stück kürzer und leichter. Bei Nutzung einer Alpha 7 der zweiten Generation braucht man sich wegen des Kamerabajonetts keinerlei Gedanken machen, das ist so robust, dass es auch deutlich schwerere Objektive schadlos im Stativbetrieb verkraftet. Etwas Vorsicht ist bei den A7 der ersten Generation geboten. In meinem Fall hatte damals sogar das leichtere SEL2470z gereicht, um das Bajonett meiner ersten A7 stark auszuleiern. ► Technik und Funktionalität: Das SEL90M28G ist eine für das Vollformat gerechnete Festbrennweite mit 90 mm (bzw.135 mm an APS-C Kameras) und Lichtstärke von f/2,8 und erreicht im Macromodus einen Abbildungsmaßstab von 1:1. Dank Innenfokussierung drehen sich die Linsen nicht mit und die Baulänge verändert sich nicht. Die Fokussierung erfolgt wahlweise automatisch mittels zweier Ultraschallmotoren oder manuell. Wobei die manuelle Fokussierung leider nur indirekt erfolgt, was gegenüber rein manuell und mechanisch fokussierbaren Objektiven etwas ungewohnt ist. Der Umschalter zwischen automatischem und manuellem Fokus ist so originell wie praktisch umgesetzt. Der gerändelte Einstellring wird einfach nach hinten gezogen und das manuelle Scharfstellen kann beginnen. Schiebt man ihn wieder vor, aktiviert man wieder den Autofokus. Um die Geschwindigkeit der automatischen Fokussierung zu optimieren, verfügt das Objektiv über einen dreistufigen Schalter zur Fokussierwegbegrenzung. Die Naheinstellgrenze liegt bei 28 cm (Frontlinse bis zur Sensorebene). Ein optischer Bildstabilisator (deaktivierbar) ist ebenfalls an Bord. Ebenso wenig fehlt die bereits vom SEL70200G bekannte Fokushaltetaste. Mit 13 cm Länge, knapp 8 cm Durchmesser und rund 600 g Gewicht ist es nicht gerade klein und leicht. Doch das ist der aufwendigen Bauweise geschuldet, die auf kompromisslose Qualität ausgelegt ist. Die optische Konstruktion besteht aus 15 Linsen in 11 Gruppen. Zum Einsatz kommen Super-ED-Glas und eine Nano Antireflexionsbeschichtung. Eine zirkulare Blende mit 9 Lamellen sorgt für eine nahezu kreisrunde Blendenöffnung und ein weiches Bokeh. Damit lässt sich das Objektiv von Blende F2,8 bis F22 abblenden. Das Objektiv ist gegen Staub und Spritzwasser geschützt. Das Filtergewinde ist für Vorsatzlinsen von 62 mm ausgelegt. Das G-Logo steht übrigens für „Gold“ und ziert nur die hochwertigsten Sony-Objektive (parallel zu den Sony-Zeiss-Objektiven). ► Praxis, Abbildungsleistung und Bildqualität: Ich nutze an meiner A7R II eine Menge hochwertiger Optiken, u.a. die zwei bereits genannten Zeiss-Linsen und das SEL70200G. Die Abbildungsleistungen des SEL90M28G toppen die meiner anderen Objektive sogar noch ein Stück weit. Die Schärfe ist bereits bei Offenblende exzellent, der 42 Megapixel-Sensor der A7R II wird wirklich ausgereizt. Der Randabfall bei Offenblende ist erstaunlich gering, etwas abgeblendet ist das Auflösungsniveau über das ganze Bild bis in die Ecken atemberaubend. Verzeichnungen finden praktisch nicht statt und CAs dürften praktisch auch kaum in Erscheinung treten. Ich konnte jedenfalls bislang noch keine erkennen. Auch eine Vignettierung findet praktisch nur bei Offenblende statt und fällt gering aus. Die Geschwindigkeit des AF scheint einer größeren Serienstreuung zu unterliegen (dazu später mehr). Bei meinem aktuellen Exemplar agiert dieser erstaunlich flink, sodass ich die Taste zur Fokussierwegbegrenzung eigentlich fast immer in Stellung „Full“ belassen kann. In dunklen und kontrastarmen Situationen braucht er natürlich entsprechend länger und neigt dann hin und wieder zum Pumpen. In der Regel wird aber immer erfolgreich fokussiert. Obwohl Sony von besonders leisen Direct Drive SSM Motoren spricht, arbeitet das SEL90M28G deutlich lauter als alle anderen Sony-Objektive, die ich kenne. Denn während die Motoren meiner anderen Objektive völlig unauffällig ihren Dienst verrichten, wird die Arbeit der Antriebe dieses Macro-Objektivs von einem in ruhigen Umgebungen durchaus deutlich vernehmbaren hellen Sirren begleitet. Für Videoaufnahmen ist das leider nicht gerade optimal. Das manuelle Fokussieren erfolgt indirekt und auch hier sind die Motoren beim Verschieben der Linsen zu hören. Im Vergleich zu rein manuell fokussierbaren Objektiven ist die Sensitivität beim Verstellen etwas gröber, also eher „digital“ als „analog“. Ich nutze auch einige komplett manuelle Objektive, wie z.B. das HandeVision IBELUX. Doch im Gegensatz zu diesem ist es hier etwas schwieriger exakt zu fokussieren, da man recht schnell den eigentlich gewünschten Schärfepunkt überspringt. Das allerdings fällt nur im direkten Vergleich auf. Unterm Strich ist diese Funktionalität beim Sony-Macro durchaus gelungen. Portraits erscheinen äußerst plastisch, das Bokeh ist butterweich und harmonisch. Mir gefällt es ausgesprochen gut! Das SEL90M28G ist ein ideales Objektiv, um selbst Banales gekonnt und kreativ in Szene zu setzen. Gerade die geringe Naheinstellgrenze, Blende F2,8 und die in Verbindung mit dem Vollformat erzielbare geringe Schärfentiefe unterstützen den Fotografen dabei. Das Sony-Macro wird vermutlich eines der am häufigsten genutzten Objektive bei mir werden. ► Problem Serienstreuung: Wie eingangs angedeutet, war es ein mühsamer Weg ein qualitativ einwandfreies Exemplar des SEL90M28G zu erhalten. Das erste Objektiv musste ich wegen eines defekten Autofokus retournieren. Das Austauschexemplar hatte eine total nachgiebige Metallfassung, die beim normalen Umfassen nachgab und Knarz- bzw. Knackgeräusche von sich gab. Das gleiche Problem trat beim dritten Sony-Macro auf. Nachdem ich schon fast die Lust verloren und die Hoffnung aufgegeben hatte, überzeugte dann zumindest das vierte Exemplar in jeder Beziehung. Das Gehäuse ist nun „bombenfest“ und auf dem Niveau der Sony-Zeiss-Objektive. Hier gibt absolut nichts nach und sogar der Autofokus arbeitet deutlich schneller und gleichzeitig leiser als bei den vorangegangenen Exemplaren. Vielleicht ist es nur ein Zufall, aber ich habe den Eindruck, dass die Qualitätsprobleme erst bei den Objektiven neueren Produktionsdatums auftreten. Denn das letztlich makellose Exemplar trägt eine wesentlich ältere Seriennummer. ► Fazit: Das SEL90M28G gehört zu den empfehlenswertesten Objektiven für das spiegellose Vollformatsystem von Sony, auch abseits der Macro-Fotografie. Die Abbildungsleistungen sind exzellent und mir ist derzeit kein besseres Objektiv bekannt, um die 42 Megapixel einer A7R II auszureizen. Auch die Verarbeitung und Haptik kann absolut überzeugen, vorausgesetzt man erwischt ein makelloses Exemplar. Normalerweise hätte das Sony-Macro aufgrund der extrem guten Leistungen eine Höchstbewertung verdient. Doch größere Schwankungen in der Fertigungsqualität bzw. eine mangelhafte Qualitätskontrolle sind bei einer UVP von 1.150 Euro nicht zu tolerieren und führen zum Punktabzug. Falls ich einen gewissen Eindruck vom 90er Sony-Macro-Objektiv vermitteln konnte, freue ich mich. Ergänzende Erfahrungen oder Fragen per Kommentarfunktion sind immer willkommen!

J'ai acheté le Sony FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS il y a 10 jours en remplacement du FE 85mm. Les premiers essais effectué chez le revendeur m'ont réellement surpris par la facilité de prise en main ainsi que la qualité du piqué. Depuis j'ai fait quelques photos aussi bien en intérieur qu'en extérieur. J'apprécie de trouver un commutateur pour la photo macro très pratique d'utilisation et qui tombe très bien sous la main. La bague qui permet de passer du mode au mode autofocus au mode manuel est simple d'utilisation et carrément pratique car elle permet une mise au point très précise avec douceur et souplesse. La stabilisation de l'objectif, en plus de celle du boitier, fait merveille lors de la prise de vue. J'ai pu réaliser des photos nettes au 1/20 de seconde. Avec le bouton qui permet de garder la mise au point, cet objectif est vraiment une perle technique. Quand au design, Sony reste fidèle à ses matériaux nobles offrant un caractère épuré qui en fait un bel objet le tout associé à une qualité de fabrication de très haut de gamme. Vraiment très heureux de cet achat. Je me rappelle d'une époque où le slogan disait... "J'en ai rêvé, Sony l'a fait".... c'est exactement ce que je pense aujourd'hui...

Ein Mega scharfes Objektiv ,welches 1 zu 1 abbildet. Die Schärfenebene ist so minimal bei Offenblende dass man sogar für ein kleines Insekt abblenden muss um es scharf zu bekommen. Das Bokeh ist genial bei Offenblende .So richtig viel konnte ich es noch nicht testen. Wetter bedingt.

My First impression, feel, and workmanship

How you perceive this lens is very subjective and probably also very dependent on what else you are used to with lenses. Compared to my previous (purely manual) macro lens with a focal length of 100 mm and F2.8, the Sony is more compact, lighter, and much more elegant in terms of the materials used. In terms of processing, it fits seamlessly into the Sony Zeiss series, of which I already use the SEL55F18z and SEL2470z The design is harmonious, modern, and somewhat playful. It also looks very interesting due to its numerous controls. It is completely encased in aluminium, the surface finish is matt and the feel is extremely pleasant. The only downer is the filter thread, which, in contrast to the Sony Zeiss lenses, is unfortunately not made of metal but of plastic. The lens hood can't keep up with the otherwise flawless and high-quality overall appearance either, because it has a simple design and is only made of plastic. I use the lens on an Alpha 7M4 and I find it to be quite harmonious in terms of ergonomics and weight distribution. It is less top-heavy than my previous macro and also a bit shorter and lighter. there is no need to worry about the camera bayonet, it is so robust that it can also withstand significantly heavier lenses on a tripod without damage. Some caution is required with the A7 of the first generation. In my case, even the lighter SEL2470z was enough to wear out the bayonet of my first A7. The SEL90M28G is an excellent macro and portrait lens. Provided you get a flawless copy. Scope of delivery and packaging In addition to the SEL90M28G, the Sony-typical, orange cardboard packaging contains a lens hood, a front and rear cover cap, a synthetic leather pouch, and a folded manual. To optimize autofocus speed, the lens features a three-position focus travel limit switch. The close-up limit is 28 cm (front lens to sensor level). An optical image stabilizer (can be deactivated) is also on board. The focus hold button, which is already familiar with the SEL70200G, is also not missing. I like the SEL90M28G fixed focal length calculated for the full format with 90 mm (or 135 mm on APS-C cameras) and light intensity of f/2.8 which achieves an image scale of 1:1 in macro mode. Thanks to internal focusing, the lenses do not rotate and the overall length does not change. Focusing is either automatic using two ultrasonic motors or manual. Unfortunately, manual focusing is only indirect, which is a bit unusual compared to purely manual and mechanically focusable lenses. The switch between automatic and manual focus is as original as it is practical. The adjustment ring is simply pulled backward and manual focusing can begin. If you push it forward again, you activate the autofocus again. To optimize autofocus speed, the lens features a three-position focus travel limit switch. The close-up limit is 28 cm (front lens to sensor level). An optical image stabilizer (which can be deactivated) is also on board. The focus hold button, which is already familiar with the SEL70200G, is also not missing. Incidentally, the G logo stands for "gold" and only adorns the highest quality Sony lenses (parallel to the Sony Zeiss lenses). The imaging performance of the SEL90M28G even tops that of my other lenses a bit. The sharpness is excellent even with the aperture wide open, and the 42-megapixel sensor of the A7M4 is really being used to the full. The edge drop when the aperture is open is surprisingly low, slightly stopped down the level of resolution is breathtaking across the entire image right into the corners. The speed of the AF seems to be subject to a greater series spread. A MOST HAVE LEN….

Extrem gute Schärfe! Besonders gefällt mir das schnelle Umschalten von AF zu MF, da man bei aktiven Insekten oft nicht viel Zeit hat. Durch die Fokus Begrenzung am Objektiv ist der Autofokus im eingestellten Bereich auch sehr schnell. Dieses Objektiv besitze ich seit Juli und ist derzeit das meist verwendete, da auch Portraits super gelingen. Auch das Bokeh ist für meinen Geschmack sehr schön.

When I switched to Sony I wanted to get a macro lens and debated which one to go for. I'm very pleased with this one. It is easy to use. I like the ability to switch between manual and auto focus by pulling/pushing the collar and manual focus feels very intuitive. On my first few outings with it I've been very happy with its results both as a macro lens and as a portrait one.

Lediglich der Autofokusantrieb ist nicht auf dem Stand, den die neusten Sony G Master - Objektive haben.

Das Objektiv hat den Vergleich mit dem Sigma 105 mm deshalb gewonnen, da mir die zusätzliche Bildstabilisierung des Objektivs bei meinen Aufnahmen (nicht nur Makro) hilft. Außerdem hatte ich den subjektiven Eindruck, dass der Autofokus, gegenüber dem o.g. Vergleichsobjektiv, etwas schneller und besser ist. Die geringere Brennweite sowie die evt. etwas bessere "Schärfe" des Sigma, war für mich insgesamt kein Hinderungsgrund; vielmehr finde ich "zu viel" Schärfe bei z.B. Portraits eher "nicht so sehr günstig"

Lens broke after 4 months.

The mount part of the lens came off after very little use and camera in proper bag. Sony agreed to give an exchange lens for three hundred some dollars. However, I feel that is not my fault that the lens broke.

I have only had this a week but my experience so far is as follows :- It is no doubt very sharp but as you would expect with macro photography, you need to stop down to say f8 upwards to get a reasonable depth of field. I am not that impressed with auto focus, even with the distance limiter it hunts a fair bit and is much noisier than my 24-105 lens. Also for me the lens ring which you push/pull to change between the 2 is right where I normally hold a lens so I keep inadvertently changing the focus mode. I should be able to adjust my hold with practise to overcome this. Overall it doesn't significantly improve on images taken with my 24-105mm with a screw in magnifier . This is quite an old lens and would probably benefit from an update as the 70-200 has just had.

Ist eine äußerst scharfe Linse 90mm 2.8 mit OSS ist ein Traum, Der Preis ist hoch. Autofokus ist toll aber für Makro ? Sicherlich nicht. Die linse eignet sich also für alle die Portrait und Makro damit fotografieren wollen perfekt. Nur für Makro würde ich eher auf 2:1 linsen mit MF und halb so teuere Varianten zu greifen.

Das Sony FE 90mm f2.8 Makro ist auch im Jahre 2022 grandios und hat mich nicht nur mit der fabelhaften Abbildungsleistung überzeugt, sondern auch mit dem Handling, der Wechsel zwischen AF und MF direkt am Fokusring durch vor- und zurückziehen des Rings, ist einfach genial. Auch wenn viele immer den Vergleich zum 105mm von der Konkurrenz suchen, das kommt für mich nicht in Frage, NATIVE Linsen haben immer ihre Vorteile.

Auf Alpha 7-iii ab Offenblende bis in die Ecken knackscharf, auf der A7 R-iV leichte Unschärfe in den Ecken, ab Blende 4 wieder alles ok. Manuelles Fokussieren im Bereich ab 2m ok, im Makrobereich viel zu unempfindlich. Fokus Bracketing praktisch unmöglich, das kann mein uraltes Vivitar 100mm F2,8 Makro um Meilen besser, deswegen auch nur 3 Punkte für die Benutzerfreudlichkeit. Der Autofokus ist (nicht nur für ein Makroobjektiv) rattenschnell und klebt förmlich am Objekt (Sony A3 und A7R4). Die Bildsabilisierung (Steady Shot) ist im Makrobereich erwartungsgemäß wenig effizient, bei größerer Entfernung aber der Brennweite adäquat. Fairerweise muss gesagt werden, dass ein 60MPixel-Sensor aber auch extreme Ansprüche an eine ruhige Hand stellt.

My first G master dedicated lens

Coupled with my five year dream camera the constantly updated A7 series body I now have the camera that should see out my days. The world getting smaller I decided that my portrait history was needing my smaller challenged world to come to the fore. Updated my computer two years ago to cope with the memory to cope with 42Mega pixels and the result has in just 24 shots been astounding. The speed of the focus has no lag which the A6 did along with the first A7 and my wait is well served in cost and quality. I bought a wide telephoto Sigma as a stopgap butthe weight alone will have me saving for another G Master compatibles. You get what you pay for in life and this lens does not disappoint except the people who are surprised at the minutae and ask me to delete their false vanity. Exceptional............

Relatively new to photography and currently using the a6000 as my start-up camera. This macro G lens was a highly-recommended lens from the LondonCameraExchange guys in Nottingham when I was contemplating whether to go down the telephoto or macro photography route. Have to say, the versality of this lens was exactly what was showcased to me - amazing for macro photography, impressive too for portraits yet somewhat still surprisingly good to use for long-range landscape shots as well. Was thinking of trying out the ‘cheaper’ 2 macro lenses simply for price-sake but really glad I opted for this in the end.

Knackscharfe Linse die trotz des technologischen Alters problemlos ganz tolle Ergebnisse zaubert. Bei Makrofotografie ist zwingend die Fokusverlagerung einzusetzen. Ohne ist aufgrund der geringen Schärfentiefe kein durchgängig scharfes Bild möglich. (Das liegt aber nicht am Objektiv, das ist technologisch bedingt bei einem Makroobjektiv )

Ich habe mir das Objektiv gekauft weil ich gerne nah ran gehe. Jedes Objektiv wird mit Makro-Eigenschaften besser. Eine besondere Freude ist der Fokusring. Er fühlt dich sehr genau an und kann komplett verscjoben werden, um zwischen manuellem und Autofokus zu wechseln - viel besser als ein Fokusschalter. Allerdings nicht zu erreichen wenn die Streulichtblende im Transportmodus drauf ist. Steht er dann auf manuell kann nicht fokussiert werden.Wenn es schnell gehen muss ist ein Wechsel kaum möglich. Das ist ein kleines Manko.
